iPhone 15 Wi-Fi Not Working: Fixes That Work
Most iPhone 15 Wi-Fi failures are not the phone. The same symptom can come from the router, the broadband line, a saved setting, a VPN, or — least often — the phone’s wireless hardware. This guide works router-first: prove the network itself works, run the quick phone resets, restart the router properly, then test the same phone on a different network. Only when the fault follows the phone everywhere do you price a repair — Apple publishes no Wi-Fi fee, so hardware falls to its $549 “other damage” tier.
ϟ Quick Expert Summary
Work in order, testing after each step. First confirm the network itself: broadband down, or other devices offline too, means it is not the phone. Then Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, a phone restart, and Forget This Network and reconnect. Restart the router properly — unplugged for 30 seconds — because that clears more home-network faults than any phone setting. Then the deciding test: the same phone on a different network. Works there? Your home network is the fault. Fails everywhere, with a greyed-out toggle or no Wi-Fi address listed? Hardware territory: “other damage” $549 at Apple, $99 with AppleCare+.

✓ A Repair Makes Sense When
- The Wi-Fi toggle is greyed out and cannot be turned on
- No Wi-Fi address listed in Settings → General → About
- Drops at close range, on multiple networks
- The failure began right after a drop or liquid exposure
× Do Not Pay Yet When
- Other devices are also offline on the same network
- It works on a different network — that is your router
- The router has not been restarted, the network not rejoined
- AppleCare+ is active — the same damage is a $99 Apple service fee

② FixUpPhone Expert Analysis
Diagnosis and repair-cost analysis based on Apple’s published specifications, fees and coverage terms, plus FixUpPhone’s service information.
Step 1 — Confirm the network itself is working
Start with the network, not the phone. Check another device on the same Wi-Fi, and look at the router’s lights. If broadband is down, or other devices are also offline, the fault is the line, provider or router — no phone repair will fix it. Note what your phone does — sees no networks, will not join, joins with no internet, drops, or runs slowly — and when it started.
Step 2 — Airplane Mode on for 30 seconds, then off
Turn Airplane Mode on, wait a full 30 seconds, then turn it off. That forces every radio to drop and reconnect from scratch, clearing many stuck connections. Test with a real page load, not just the Wi-Fi symbol: the symbol only proves the phone joined a network, not that it reaches the internet.
Step 3 — Restart the phone
Restart the iPhone and test again — a full restart clears temporary faults a radio toggle cannot. If it will not restart normally, force restart: quickly press and release Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears. That erases nothing, but back up before going further if you have not recently.
Step 4 — Forget This Network and reconnect
Settings → Wi-Fi → tap the (i) beside your network → Forget This Network, then rejoin and enter the password again — have it ready first. This deletes that network’s saved profile, a classic cause of join failures and drop loops, and proves the fault was not a password changed on the router while the phone kept trying the old one. On public networks, finish or cancel any captive-portal login page too.
Step 5 — Restart the router, as a step in its own right
Unplug the router, wait a full 30 seconds, plug it back in, and give it several minutes to return. With separate router and broadband boxes, restart both in order — both off, broadband unit on first, then the router. This clears more home-network faults than any phone setting, because routers accumulate faults over weeks of uptime. Retest near the router: working beside it but not across the home is a coverage problem, not a phone problem.
Step 6 — Test the same phone on a different network
The deciding test: join a different network — a friend’s house, work, or a hotspot. If the phone works there, its hardware works and the fault is your home network. Be honest about where the remaining work sits then: the router and mesh side. Check placement (central, raised, out of a cupboard), a congested channel, and band steering — the router feature that moves devices between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands this phone connects on; 2.4 GHz reaches further, 5 GHz is faster nearby, and steering that bounces a phone between them can look like a phone fault. Its Wi-Fi 6 radio works fully with modern routers, and newer routers are backward compatible with it, so “the router is too old” is rarely the verdict. If it fails there too, the fault follows the phone.
Step 7 — Update iOS
Install any pending iOS update (Settings → General → Software Update), then test again. Wireless fixes ship inside iOS updates, and a fault that began right after an update is a software suspect first.
Step 8 — Try Private Wi-Fi Address off, for that one network
Some routers filter devices by network address — and this phone can present a private, rotating address to each network. As a diagnostic, tap the (i) beside the problem network, turn Private Wi-Fi Address off for that network only, and rejoin. If Wi-Fi works immediately, the clash was between the rotating address and that router. Off is a reasonable fix on a trusted home network; leave it on in public.
Step 9 — Turn the VPN off, as a diagnostic
A VPN app — or a work or school profile that installs one — can route, filter or break traffic while Wi-Fi itself is healthy. Turn it fully off and retest. If pages load with it off, Wi-Fi was never the fault: update or remove the app.
Step 10 — Reset Network Settings, late, with the full warning
Only when everything above has failed: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings. Know what it erases — every saved Wi-Fi network and password, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings; you will need passwords again to rejoin. Photos, apps, messages and accounts are untouched. It belongs late because of that cost, and it is a clean dividing line: failure on multiple networks after it rules out settings and software.
Hardware signs — and one honest case check first
First, take the case off and retest: a thick case, especially one with metal in it, can weaken signal at range, and a phone that improves case-off needs no repair. The genuine hardware signs are different. One: the Wi-Fi toggle is greyed out. Two: no Wi-Fi address is listed in Settings → General → About. Three: drops even at close range to the router, on multiple networks. Four: onset right after a drop or liquid exposure, which can disturb the antennas at the frame edges. If liquid is part of the story, read the water damage guide first. Its IP68 rating applied when new; resistance is not permanent, and liquid damage is not covered by Apple’s warranty. Apple publishes no Wi-Fi fee, so a hardware cause falls to “other damage” — $549, or $99 with AppleCare+.
Questions to ask before you approve
- Did you confirm the fault follows the phone to other networks?
- What is included in the quote — parts, labour, seals, tax?
- Will Wi-Fi and Bluetooth both be tested afterwards?
- What warranty covers the part and labour?
- Is there any sign of liquid or frame damage?
- Could AppleCare+ cover this at the $99 fee?
③ Pros & Cons: Independent Repair vs Apple’s Tier
✓ Reasons for an Assessed Independent Repair
- Diagnosis first — the fault may be an antenna connection
- Priced as the diagnosed job, not Apple’s $549 catch-all tier
- Keeps a $799 phone whose only fault is wireless hardware
- Available locally in CA or NV, or through mail-in service
× Reasons to Use Apple Instead
- AppleCare+ active? The same damage is a $99 service fee at Apple
- A genuine defect is worth raising with Apple first
- Combined damage may make Apple’s single tier simpler to compare
- Any opening of the phone breaks the factory seal, whoever does it
Wi-Fi Repair Cost? Check the Published Prices
Apple publishes no Wi-Fi-specific fee, so the honest table is Apple’s damage categories plus the assessed route. Apple inspects before confirming its final fee; tax and shipping may apply, and authorised providers set their own fees.
| Your route | Published price | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Router, settings or software cause | Free | The ladder above costs nothing. Finish it before pricing hardware. |
| Apple — wireless hardware damage, no cover | $549 | Wi-Fi hardware is not a listed repair; it falls into “other damage” — about 69% of the $799 price. |
| Apple — wireless hardware damage, with AppleCare+ | $99 | The AppleCare+ fee for other damage. If your plan is active, check this route first. |
| Apple — defective wireless hardware under warranty | Covered | A defect is handled under warranty terms while cover lasts. The one-year warranty for launch buyers expired in September 2024; drop and liquid damage are not defects. |
| FixUpPhone — Wi-Fi diagnosis | Quote after diagnosis | No fixed price is published. Diagnosis confirms antenna, wireless hardware or frame, and repair proceeds only after you approve a quote. |
For context, Apple’s other fees for this model: screen $279, back glass $169, both $399, battery $99, rear camera $169. AppleCare+: screen $29, back glass $29, both $58, battery $0 below 80%, rear camera $99.

④ Repairability & Common Repair Needs
Antennas at the frame edges
Antennas live around the aluminum frame edges, so a hard drop can disturb their connections even when the glass survives — symptoms starting on the day of a drop deserve an antenna check, not another reset.
Drops and liquid change the picture
Liquid exposure is a hardware suspect, and corrosion can surface weeks after a soaking. The IP68 rating applied when new; resistance is not permanent, and liquid damage is not covered by Apple’s warranty. Tell any repairer up front — and see the water damage repair guide.
Document the diagnosis
Ask for the finding in writing — antenna, wireless hardware, frame, or a fault elsewhere — and for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth both to be tested afterwards, since they share circuitry.

Wi-Fi Problems With Your iPhone 15?
Tell FixUpPhone what the phone is doing; choose a store or mail-in.
- Wi-Fi will not turn on, or is greyed out
- No Wi-Fi address listed in Settings → About
- The phone cannot see any networks at all
- Connects to Wi-Fi but nothing loads
- Drops Wi-Fi even standing beside the router
- Problems began after a drop or liquid
An online booking is a request; the team confirms the next step.
Mail-In Repair Service
Start with the repair request form and choose Mail-In Repair. You pay inbound shipping; FixUpPhone pays the return. Do not send the device until the receiving store and shipping instructions are confirmed.
Start Mail-In Repair →Back up first. Finish the different-network test before mailing anything: a fault that only happens on your home network cannot be retested away from it, and a router problem mailed in with the phone comes back unfixed. List the steps tried, and flag liquid damage, overheating or a damaged battery.

⑤ Should You Repair or Replace It?
Network and settings causes are free, so only confirmed hardware is a spending decision. Compare an assessed quote with Apple’s $549 tier on a $799 phone — replacement is never the answer to a Wi-Fi fault alone.
| Diagnosis | Right move | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Other devices fail on the same network | Fix the router or provider line | The phone was never faulty. |
| Fails only at home, works elsewhere | Router placement, channel, band steering | One-network failures live in the network. |
| Saved-network, VPN or settings problem | Fix it free with the ladder | Forget and rejoin, or a reset, clears it. |
| Wireless damage, AppleCare+ active | Apple at the $99 fee | The plan covers other damage at that service fee. |
| Wireless damage, no cover | Assessed independent repair | Compare a diagnosis-based quote with $549. |
| Wi-Fi failure plus other major damage | Combined written quote | Use the repair-or-replace framework on the total. |
⑥ Alternatives & Comparison
Cellular data keeps the phone usable while you troubleshoot — watch your allowance, and postpone large backups.
Explore option →If “No Service” appears alongside dead Wi-Fi, work the carrier-first ladder in the companion guide first.
Explore option →The larger Pro model shares the router-first method, with different hardware and fees — do not carry its prices over.
Explore option →⑦ Accessories We Recommend
If the phone proves healthy but one room defeats it, a mesh node fixes the network’s reach. Place it halfway to the weak room.
Standard cases are fine. Avoid thick cases and metal backs, which can weaken signal at range — and test case-off first.
A wired adapter on the USB-C port keeps a desk-bound phone connected while its wireless is diagnosed — a workaround, not a fix.
Check specifications and compatibility before ordering.
⑧ Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my iPhone 15 connect to Wi-Fi but have no internet?
Usually the network: the router has lost broadband while still broadcasting a name. Test another device — if it fails too, restart the router (unplug 30 seconds) and check your provider. If only the phone is affected, run the ladder: Airplane Mode, restart, forget and rejoin.
Why is the Wi-Fi toggle greyed out on my iPhone 15?
The clearest hardware sign: the phone cannot start its wireless hardware — more so if no Wi-Fi address is listed in Settings → General → About. Restart once to confirm, then book a diagnosis. At Apple: $549 “other damage”, or $99 with AppleCare+.
Will Reset Network Settings delete my photos or apps?
No. It erases saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings — note your passwords first, to rejoin. Photos, apps, messages and accounts are untouched. A safe last step, just an inconvenient one.
Why does Wi-Fi fail at home but work everywhere else?
That pattern clears the phone and points at the home network: placement, a congested channel, band steering between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, or a router fault. Restart the router and test beside it — a hardware fault would follow you everywhere.
Can a phone case really weaken Wi-Fi?
At range, yes — a thick case, especially one containing metal, can weaken signal. The test is free: take it off and compare in the problem room. If it improves case-off, the phone needs no repair.
Can Private Wi-Fi Address stop a network joining?
It can, on routers that filter devices by address, because a rotating private address can clash with that behaviour. Turning it off for that one network, in its (i) settings, is a legitimate diagnostic — and a reasonable fix on a trusted home network.
How much does it cost to fix Wi-Fi hardware on an iPhone 15?
There is no published Wi-Fi-specific price. At Apple a hardware cause falls into the $549 “other damage” category, or $99 with AppleCare+. FixUpPhone quotes after diagnosis. Router and settings causes cost nothing.
Can I mail my iPhone 15 to FixUpPhone for a Wi-Fi repair?
Yes — choose Mail-In Repair, and do not post the phone until the store and instructions are confirmed. You pay inbound shipping; FixUpPhone pays the return. Finish the different-network test first, back up, and list the steps tried. Never mail a hot or swollen phone.
