iPhone 15 Pro Max No Service Fix: Practical Guide & Next Steps

Start with the carrier, not the repair counter. An outage, an account problem, a suspended line, a billing or plan change, or a provisioning error looks identical to a broken phone: “No Service”, or SOS only. This guide works carrier first, phone second, repair last: a free ladder of checks, then the hardware fork where Apple’s $699 “other damage” tier applies.

ϟ Quick Expert Summary

Most iPhone 15 Pro Max no service cases are not repairs. Check your carrier’s outage status and whether other phones on the same network nearby have service. Then work the free ladder: Airplane Mode, a restart, carrier settings and iOS updates, a SIM reseat where a physical SIM is fitted, and confirmation that the line is active. Test the SIM in another phone, or another SIM in this phone. Only No Service that survives a known-good SIM and a network reset, or began after a drop or liquid, is hardware territory: $699 at Apple, or $99 with AppleCare+.

✓ Work the Ladder When

  • The phone shows “No Service”, “Searching” or SOS only
  • Signal vanished suddenly, after travel, or after an update
  • Other phones nearby may or may not have signal — compare first
  • Wi-Fi works but cellular does not, or the reverse

× Do Not Pay for a Repair Yet When

  • Your carrier has an outage or you are outside its coverage
  • The account, plan or line has a billing or activation problem
  • You have not restarted, updated, or checked the SIM or eSIM yet
  • The fault might be carrier-side — no repairer can fix that

Cellular and Wi-Fi are separate systems. The phone also carries an IP68 laboratory rating when new; resistance is not permanent, and liquid damage is not covered by Apple’s warranty.

② FixUpPhone Expert Analysis

Practical troubleshooting and repair-cost analysis based on Apple’s published specifications, service fees and coverage terms, plus FixUpPhone’s published service information.

The carrier-first rule

Before any setting: check the carrier. Check its outage status (app, site or support line) and whether other phones on the same network nearby have service. If they do not, it is the network — wait, or move to where service is known to be strong. If they do, ask early whether this line is active. A suspended line, a billing or plan change, an incomplete activation, or a provisioning error all present as a dead phone, and only the carrier can see or clear them. Confirm the line in the carrier app or account.

Airplane Mode, then a restart

Turn Airplane Mode on, wait, then turn it off. That forces a fresh tower search and re-registration, clearing many stuck “Searching” states. If service does not return, restart fully — a restart reloads the cellular system and carrier profile together.

Carrier settings and iOS updates

Carriers push small settings updates that control how the phone joins the network. On Wi-Fi, open Settings → General → About and wait on that screen: a waiting carrier settings update is offered as a prompt there. Install any pending iOS update too (Settings → General → Software Update).

The SIM step — framed for both kinds of phone

This model uses a physical SIM or eSIM depending on region, and the US model is eSIM-only. Where a physical SIM is fitted: power off first, eject the tray, inspect the card for damage or dirt, reseat it firmly, then power on — a card shifted in a drop can cause exactly this fault. Where the line is an eSIM: confirm in Settings → Cellular that it is listed and turned on, and treat anything missing as carrier provisioning, below.

The decisive test: swap the SIM

Run the single most decisive free test, if you can: put your SIM in another phone, or a known-good SIM in this phone. If your SIM also fails elsewhere, the fault follows the line or card — carrier territory. If a known-good SIM works here, your handset is broadly healthy. If a known-good SIM also shows No Service here, where other phones on the same network work, the fault follows this handset.

eSIM honesty: re-provisioning is a carrier action

Most eSIM faults are provisioning faults, not phone faults. Do not delete an eSIM as a casual experiment: without the carrier ready to re-issue it, deletion can strand the line entirely, with no way to restore it from the phone alone. Deletion and re-provisioning are carrier-guided steps, done with the carrier ready to issue a fresh profile — never an early move.

Reset Network Settings: the last free step, with its cost stated

If everything above has failed, Reset Network Settings (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset) rebuilds the network configuration from scratch. Know the cost first: it erases saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords and cellular settings. Back up first where practical, and note Wi-Fi passwords you cannot recover another way. Useful — but not free of consequences, which is why it sits last.

The hardware fork

No Service becomes a repair question when the pattern points inside the phone: it began right after a drop or liquid exposure; it survives a known-good SIM and a network reset; or signal comes and goes as the phone moves. A bent frame or cracked back glass from the same drop is corroborating evidence — the cellular system and antenna path run through the phone’s structure — so read our iPhone 15 Pro Max back glass repair cost guide alongside this one, and, after any wetting, the iPhone 15 Pro Max water damage repair cost guide. Diagnosis then confirms the cellular hardware before anyone commits to a fee.

Questions to ask before you approve

  • Was the phone tested with a known-good line before it was opened?
  • Is the finding the cellular system, the antenna path, or the board?
  • What exactly is included in the quote — parts, labour, seals, tax?
  • Will cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and calls all be tested afterwards?
  • What warranty covers the part and labour?
  • Could AppleCare+ cover this more cheaply at the $99 fee?

③ Pros & Cons: Independent Diagnosis vs Carrier and Apple

✓ Reasons for an Assessed Independent Diagnosis

  • Confirms whether the fault is hardware before you spend on parts
  • Priced as the diagnosed job, not Apple’s $699 catch-all tier
  • Cellular faults after drops or liquid are exactly a repair shop’s work
  • Available locally in CA or NV, or through mail-in service

× Reasons to Start With Your Carrier or Apple

  • Outages, coverage, account and provisioning problems belong to the carrier — free to check
  • AppleCare+ active? Hardware damage is a $99 service fee at Apple
  • Launch buyers’ one-year warranty expired in September 2024 — cover today means AppleCare+ or a later purchase
  • No repairer can restore a suspended line or fix a downed tower

No Service Repair Cost? Check the Published Prices

There is no published “no service” fee: most causes are carrier, account or SIM-side and cost nothing at a repair counter. Apple inspects before confirming the final fee; tax may be added and shipping may apply. Authorised providers set their own fees.

④ Repairability & Common Repair Needs

Cellular damage after drops

The cellular system and its antenna path run through the phone’s frame and boards. A hard drop can damage a connection without breaking the glass; the signature is service that died the day of the drop, or signal that cuts out when the phone moves.

Liquid and corrosion

Liquid can corrode the boards the cellular system depends on, and failure can creep in over weeks: weaker signal, then Searching, then No Service. The IP68 rating is a laboratory rating from new; resistance is not permanent, and liquid damage is not covered by Apple’s warranty.

Document the diagnosis

Ask for the finding in writing: network and line ruled out, cellular system, antenna path, or board-level. Keep it with your ladder notes — dates, locations tested, what the carrier said, the SIM swap result.

These are possible causes and service considerations, not claims of a model-wide defect. Back up before any repair. Tell the repairer about any drops, liquid exposure, overheating or damaged battery before arranging mail-in shipment, and flag them in the booking request; describe a phone used outside its 0° to 35° C operating range, or stored outside −20° to 45° C, honestly too.

No Service on Your iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Worked the ladder and the fault follows the phone? Tell FixUpPhone what you found and choose a store or mail-in. Never mail a phone whose only fault might be carrier-side without doing the free tests first.

  • “No Service” or SOS only everywhere, not just at home
  • Signal died after a drop, a bend or liquid exposure
  • Carrier confirms the account and line are active
  • A known-good SIM fails in this phone, or this line works elsewhere
  • Signal cuts out when the phone moves or is held

An online booking is a request; the team confirms the next step with you.

⑤ Should You Repair or Replace It?

Route by pattern, not frustration. The carrier owns the tower, coverage, line, account and provisioning — all free to check, none fixable at a counter. A repair shop owns what is inside the phone, once the fault follows the handset. Apple owns the cover question: with AppleCare+ active, hardware damage is a $99 fee there, while launch buyers’ one-year warranty expired in September 2024.

⑥ Alternatives & Comparison

Stay reachable on Wi-Fi calling

Where your carrier supports it, Wi-Fi calling keeps calls and texts working at home while a cellular fault is sorted — a workaround, not a fix.

⑦ Accessories We Recommend

A case that protects the frame

Corner and edge protection protects the frame the cellular system and antenna path run through.

A home Wi-Fi upgrade

Strong home Wi-Fi plus Wi-Fi calling means a weak-signal house stops being a dead zone for calls. It does not fix a faulty phone.

A SIM ejector tool (physical SIM models)

On models with a tray, the correct tool reseats a physical SIM without scratching it.

⑧ Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my iPhone 15 Pro Max say No Service?

In check order: a carrier outage or coverage gap; a suspended line, billing or plan change, or provisioning error; a registration glitch cleared by Airplane Mode or a restart; a pending carrier settings or iOS update; a SIM or eSIM problem; and only then hardware — cellular system, antenna path or board damage, usually after a drop or liquid.

What should I check first when No Service appears?

The carrier: its outage status, whether other phones on the same network nearby have service, and — in the carrier app or account — that your line is active. No handset setting fixes an outage or an account problem.

How does the SIM swap test help?

Put your SIM in another phone, or a known-good SIM in this one. If the fault follows your SIM or line, it is carrier territory; if a known-good SIM also fails here where other phones on the same network work, the fault follows the handset.

Should I delete my eSIM to fix No Service?

Not on your own, and never as an early step. Most eSIM faults are provisioning faults, and deleting an eSIM without the carrier ready to re-issue it can strand the line. Deletion and re-provisioning are carrier-guided steps.

What does Reset Network Settings actually erase?

Saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords and cellular settings, as it rebuilds the network configuration. That is why it is the last free step. Back up first and note Wi-Fi passwords you will need again.

My phone lost service right after a drop. Is that hardware?

It is the pattern hardware makes, especially with a bent frame or cracked back from the same drop. Still work the ladder first, including the SIM swap. If No Service follows the phone everywhere, on a line the carrier confirms is active, and survives a reset, book a diagnosis.

How much does it cost to fix No Service on an iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Most cases cost nothing: network, account, settings, or SIM/eSIM. If diagnosis finds genuine cellular-hardware failure, Apple prices it in the $699 “other damage” tier, or $99 with AppleCare+. FixUpPhone quotes after assessment; no FixUp price is published for this fault.

Can I mail my iPhone 15 Pro Max to FixUpPhone for a signal problem?

Yes — but only after the free tests. Never mail a phone whose only fault might be carrier-side without doing them first. Start a repair request, choose Mail-In Repair, and do not post the phone until the receiving store and instructions are confirmed. You pay inbound shipping; FixUpPhone pays the return. Include your ladder notes and flag any liquid damage, overheating or damaged battery.
