An existing 16 owner should distinguish a slow application from a slow phone. Check available space and whether the problem occurs in other apps before replacing hardware. For a new buyer, the platform difference belongs beside condition, storage and the complete offer.

Camera Comparison

The 17 increases ultra-wide resolution while both remain without a dedicated telephoto. If distant subjects are your main concern, comparing standard models may not address it. Look at practical ultra-wide samples if that is the reason for upgrading.

The 17 has a 48MP ultra-wide compared with the 16’s 12MP specification. That is worth investigating for landscapes and close-up compositions, but it does not prove that every wide shot is sharper in every lighting condition. Both standard phones still lack a separate telephoto.

Battery Life & Charging

A newer unit can have a fresher battery, but that is separate from the model’s design. Review the condition of a used 16 and compare manufacturer tests with caution rather than promising all-day endurance.

Apple’s US specifications list up to 30 hours of video playback for iPhone 17 and 22 for iPhone 16. These are manufacturer test maxima for the models, not measurements of a used unit or promises for navigation, recording or weak-signal use.

Software & Features

Both are in the Apple Intelligence-capable standard lineup. Check the particular feature and language you need; do not assume every software announcement requires a 17.
